This song is inspired by the Fox ‘news’ phenomenon in the USA. The bile and ignorance that spews forth from Rupert Murdoch’s flagship network was initially quite astonishing to a Non-American. Accept in recent years the same level of extremism is now being passed of as ‘news’ here in Australia, particularly from ‘The Australian’ newspaper, and increasingly the other Murdoch owned tabloids.

In the USA it is widely argued that Fox news played a significant part in creating the Tea Party movement, an ultra-right wing extremist movement that is pro-corporate, racist, pro-war and anti-UN, anti-science, denies climate change, and believes tax and basic government services found across the developed world such healthcare, is the height of extremist Communism. This all appeals to older white people with low levels of education, who feel something is fundamentally going wrong with their society but have limited abilities or opportunities to find out what it actually is.

But don’t think we are free from such views in Australia or Europe, the ultra-right is rising everywhere, and most recently even neo-fascist parties have won large chunks of popular support in the UK, France and Greece. In Australia, aside from the Murdoch Press, Tea Party like views are largely fuelled by the ultra-right talk back radio hosts like Alan Jones and extremist pro-corporate faux ‘think tanks’ like the Institute of Public Affairs.

But ultimately the truth will prevail. And yes there is an obvious South Park reference in this song. CD>>
