Article shows how bank lobbyists pervert democracy

bankersHey folks

A very interesting article bubbled up in the Sydney Morning Herald today, almost criminally hidden away in the business pages so the regular reader may well miss it.

It shines a light on something Blackbreaks have long held an interest; how banks manage to influence government and clinically subvert the democratic process.

While the details here are Australian in nature, the lesson is the same for rest of the world, and for wealthy countries in particular: the “too big to fail” scenario proves the worlds largest financial institutions have got it all over the veneer of our political systems.

Australain pre-grunge

So This week I have been causing a little trouble in the media with a blog post published in the Guardian on why I felt Nirvana were quite over rated when compared to the Australian scene from that period..

Well ok, i Implied that Australians invented grunge, maybe a touch over the top, but I assure you I was egged on for controversy by The Guardian and they were the ones that pushed the angle on Lubricated Goat in the title…  so none of this is my fault.. entirely… (more…)

Debunkers Issue 1 – Privatisation

Or Why Privatisation is bullshit*

With all this excitable hoo-haa** about the current ultra right-wing Liberal Party controlled Australian Government  (to be clear to outsiders, the current Australian “Liberal”  Party are a crazy Tea party style conservative party – I know, it’s weird), many many many good friends and fine people alike have a tendency to randomly stop us in the street (it’s true, really) , or say at the park when walking the dog or the studio Llama, to ask us Blackbreaking musicians (and genuine bona fide political philosopher-er-erers )  about the origins of said right-wing mythology, most particularly in the modern Australian context. Well now –  THAT is indeed a very good question folks, so grab a hot chocolate and sit down by the fire..and let us begin..

Breaks Blog away – Australia’s brutality

Breaks Blog, lets rock.

What an unbelievable state of affairs we have here in Australia with our treatment of asylum seekers / refugees. Both major parties (Labor and Liberal) are guilty of being part of the setting up this horrendous regime, but the conservative Abbott government has taken it to new lows, pissing off Indonesia, and treating our other extremely poor neighbours, PNG and Nauru with exploitative contempt.  (more…)

This song was inspired by a discussion with a friend who said that so many people in our wealthy developed world completely fail to have even a basic notion of the background to political discourse. This appears to be due to the way politics is reported in the mainstream media as a personality battle of leaders who fundamentally say the same things.  Of course There is a little more to it than that and Blackbreaks are here to help you do some learnin’

Dinner Party is a song about learning to get along with those that may not agree with you politically, or religiously, or otherwise. Sometimes its wonderful to get together and eat and drink and argue with folk from all walks of life, and by the end you may just be all dancing together.. Chris Dubrow

Lyrics Post: Black President

This song is inspired by the Fox ‘news’ phenomenon in the USA.  The bile and ignorance that spews forth from Rupert Murdoch’s flagship network was initially quite astonishing to a Non-American. Accept in recent years the same level of extremism is now being passed of as ‘news’ here in Australia, particularly from ‘The Australian’ newspaper, and increasingly the other Murdoch owned tabloids.

Recording away!

The blackbreak gang have been slavishly working away in the studio llama-a-rama.

And things are polishing up very well if we may say so our forever humble selves.

WIth some songs we have been flogging around the traps for a while mixed in with some brand new stuff, which is good, as right now there is plenty to get fired up about.

Looks like a second single/e.p. will drop first, followed by the big first album a little later in the year.

We will keep you posted. Promise.
